Peru Trip Advice: LC Peru Flights Booked And More

Mon Feb 18, 2013 8:37 pm

I am planning a trip to Peru for later this year, so far I have booked a flight to LIM arriving at 23:00 and then have booked a flight out from LIM to CUZ a few hours later, arriving Saturday morning and then departing back to LIM on Friday morning.

Do you have any experience of LC Peru? I booked it because of never having heard of them before, plus they were very cheap. Plus the bonus of flying on their rather interesting fleet and hopefully an experience!

Would you recommend a trip from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado? I just want to experience/see the Amazon, albeit briefly!

I don't have much time so would have to fit everything into the 6 days I have in CUZ, including the trip to Puerto Maldonado.

I would probably end up flying Star Peru - any experiences? suggestions?

I am avoiding the Gringo 'tax' airlines!

in terms of Cusco and MP, I am hoping to spend a full day at the site including the trek up to Hueyna Picchu and then spend the remaining time just exploring the sites at my own leisurely pace!

I have 4 nights in LIM itself at the end of the short 12 day trip.

Any other Peru specific tips would be appreciated - including where to stay? eat? what to see? beaches? bars? plane spotting!?! How to get my tickets for MP and HP in advance? train tickets to MP? etc

I have 14 hours in Sao Paulo on the way there, from 5am to 7pm - any suggestions welcome, I would like to do a quick tour, take some photos, have some great Brazilian food etc.

Hello ammunition, as your trip is short I would recomend you to fly there because bus takes over 24hs and It's not the most comfortable one.- In Lima you should book a hotel in Miraflores, it's the best place! For the train to Machu Picchu you can buy it online here; www.perurail.com.- It's only in spanish but is very easy to book.- Star Peru or LC Peru are good airlines, you will be okay.- You should get a flight over Nazca Lines, that's just an outstanding experience.- http://www.nazcaflights.com/nazcalines.htm

Hope I help you! Joaquin

I purchased tickets to Machu Picchu here https://www.ticket-machupicchu.com/purchase/form1.php?lg=en It takes a few weeks to get your tickets, but it's legit.

For train tickets use http://www.perurail.com/en/

I'm going to Peru next month, and I have booked tickets to MP and train tickets through the pages provided, and airline tickets with Star Peru, Peruvian Airlines, Lan Peru, TACA, Avianca, KLM, Copa, and AF. I can't wait :P

Out of interest, how did you book LC Peru?? They wouldn't accept any of my UK debit/credit cards and after endless conversations by email and phone I gave up and booked TACA (business class to avoid gringo tax) for LIM-CUZ instead!

Thanks for your help, it is appreciated! I will probably end up staying in Miraflores

I booked my LC Peru flights directly on their website - i paid by Visa and had to go through the Verified by Visa page for the confirmation - pretty smooth sailing I would say!

Hi Ammunition

Some years back now I flew LIM to Arequipa - a lovely little airport - before going overland to Cusco via Colca Canyon [for the Condors]; Lake Titicaca; and into Cusco.

It's worth going by land to Cusco as the journey over the high Andes is awesome.

If you haven't fixed your dates yet I'd recommend going in late June and timing your visit to Cusco to co-incide with the Inti Raymi festival [festival of the sun] at the summer solstice, which is an ancient Inca festival and is apparently the second largest festival in South America after Carnival in Rio.

As to Puerto Maldanado I enjoyed my visit to the surrounding areas - a great salt lick up river to see the birds at dawn, but generally didn't see as much wildlife as in the Brazilian amazon. The airport was great, all open to the elements, who needs air conditioning when you can have fresh air, and we were delayed for about 4 hours due to the torrential rain preventing any inbound flights.

My domestic flights were all with Aero Continente B727s - my only ever flights on a 727, apart from one Ansett flight in Oz.

Whatever you do you will almost certainly have a great time.

PS Don't forget to try the guinea pig for dinner - a local speciality, if not slightly spooky when its on a plate in front of you.

PPS To help avoid altitude sickness eat lots of bananas [as recommended to me by the pharmacist at Boots] and drink coca tea [as recommended by everyone!].

There are several train services to Machu Picchu, not just Perurail - This site:

explains the options.
