CX Y Or BA WTP From CDG To HKG?

Thu Mar 07, 2013 12:31 pm

Hi, in Dec, I will fly from Paris to HKG.
I am hesitating between CX in Y and BA in WTP as both have about the same fares.

Pros for CX:
- I have always dremt to fly an Asian carrier
- nonstop flight
- operated on a 77W (fav a/c)

Cons for CX:
- price a bit high for a Y class.

Pros for BA:
- brand new WTP
- brand new A380
- about same price as CX Y class

Cons for BA:
- this is not a non-stop flight, so longer journey
- I heard LHR was a nightmare
- I am afraid BA may lose my luggage
- as this is the beginning of the A380, I am afraid BA change the A380 for another (old) equipment

What do you think?

Thanks

I may be slightly biased but I'd go with BA!

LHR T5 to T5 is definitely not a nightmare! It's quiet pleasant to be honest!
The new WTP cabin on the A380 along with Thales entertainment will make for a pleasant experience! Main meal in WTP is similar to Club World mains so it will be of a decent standard.

Just looking at BA.com, I'm not sure if the BA27 is a 200 or 300 this winter, but if its a 300 then BA tick that box aswell.

If it were me, that would be reason enough to choose CX over BA.

The new CX Y class is fantastic, although I don't know what BA's new WTP product is like. The WTP being a "premium economy" product is probably going to be roomier and more comfortable than CX Y (not saying CX Y is in any way "uncomfortable"), and at roughly the same price, it does seem like a bargain. But if the 77W is your favourite aircraft, and you've always dreamt of flying on an Asian carrier, then do so.

I think I would be inclined to go with BA, as term 5 is not the same as the rest of Heathrow, I think the hard product will be much better.

But whichever you choose please come back and tell up how good it was

T5-T5 is not like connecting at LHR generally. If it was, say, a T1-T3 connection I might advise avoiding it, but T5 really is its own little world.

Also, while BA used to have pretty dreadful baggage handling T1-T4, since the move to T5 their handling is pretty good, and you aren't any more likely to have your bag mislaid than, say, KL at AMS.

OK, I understand now why people used to lose their luggage at LHR

Does CX not have its new premium economy product to Paris?

In the their financial release they made specific mention that is was selling well.

What price-point are you looking at? You could also consider TK via IST. I found some fares to HK from CDG for 1,000 euros in their comfort class (which really is more like a light business class cabin than a premium economy product from what I've read so far), I'm probably flying them in August out of VIE.

Yes, they have their new Y+ product on their CDG route (on the 77Ws only)

I heard TK has a good product now, too

Is this a round-trip flight? Any possibility of flying out on one carrier and back on the other?

If the price is similar, definately go with BA. Even the best Y doesn't compare to the extra space and comfort of Y+. The equipment on the HKG route from BA is pretty good. They are now doing a mix of catering from C as well (I think you get to choose from their main courses). Glass drinkware too.

A few years ago I connected from CDG to SAN in LHR T5....from the inbound plane to the lounge, including security, it took about 10 minutes...easy!

Honestly, if Y+ on BA is the same, I would take BA any day. CX, while a good airline (that i've had some pretty bad experiences on), is no SQ.
