BA 744s With New First Class

Fri Mar 08, 2013 8:03 am

Greetings all. I am planning to fly LHR-BKK on 5th April on BA. As it will probably be our last trip for a while as my wife is pregnant my plan was to splash out on first class tickets as a memento of our last trip as just the two of us.

I was wondering if anyone knew the probability of that flight being operated with the new F cabin?

Many thanks in advance for any feedback

Ryan

It's nice if you get the right plane, but then again I enjoyed the old first class as well. Slept well on both beds.

Very true. I've given up caring recently since I have just as good a time in both. I have just checked your flight and it is scheduled to be a 'mid-J' with 52 seats in Club. There are 26 aircraft in this config, with 12 of them featuring New First. The remaining 14 are not scheduled to be upgraded. So statistically, you've got less than a 50% chance. You can call You First up to 72 hours before you fly and ask them if the aircraft you're schuduled to fly on has New First, but I have not found this to be very accurate. The only time you'll know for sure if when you arrive at the gate and see if there are blocked out windows in the nose section!

You'll have a great flight regardless.

Yeah......I didn't - old First I never found long enough or wide enough either at shoulder or foot level for me! I would prefer a number of Club World seats - especially upstairs - over old First, and for a less than 50% chance of getting new First I am not sure I would risk 2x whatever the premium is above a Club Fare.

Think Bangkok is pretty much always scheduled with a 52J plane - look on thebasource.com for a record of the planes that have served it and go match whether they have new First or not.

I must admit, that apart from the initial "in your face" view of the passenger in the seat next to you, once airborne and the barriers go up, I found the experience very enjoyable as well. I would not say as enjoyable as old first, but still a very comfortable flight nonetheless, and the Galleries lounge in LHR was large but with a very cosy feel, so for a lower cost, you can have a very enjoyable experience. However, I still like First

Hi guys

Thanks for the feedback. As it happens I changed to flight BA27 to HKG in First on a 77W so I imagine that will be new first.
