Transfer Time At LHR And SIN

Sat Mar 09, 2013 11:36 am

So I am arriving with SAS to LHR and are transfering to a SQ flight. I have 1 hour 45 minutes.

I am arriving at SIN with SQ and transfering to SQ going to Ho chi minh ... 1 hour 10 minutes.

Will this be enough time ?

I am especially sceptical to LHR, as my experience there is that flights circle the airport for up to an hour before they can alnd and then there is the security etc. But when that is said, I don't know how it is today. Last time I was at LHR was 2011 and I beleave there is a new terminal now ?

Thanx for any insight.

Hi,

I'm in transit at SIN currently, and quite confidently state that 1hr 10mins is easily doable as long as your flight arrives on time. The transfer process here is remarkably quick. Unfortunately, I have got a particularly long connection so have been left kicking my heels, but I can't complain, it's a decent airport, and there is an Air Niugini B767-300 taxiing past as I type!

Heathrow may be a bit tougher, but the two airlines use the same terminal building, and so I would have thought you will be fine. T3 security is usually quite quick, and SAS tend to use gates that are only a short walk, so I wouldn't worry - 1hr 45mins should be fine.

Enjoy your trip.

The minimum connecting time at Changi is 60-minutes for SQ-SQ flights (unofficially 40-45 minutes), so a connection time of 1 hour 10 minutes is definitely doable, barring any delays as aforementioned.

For Singapore yes the connection can certainly be done, albeit the walks can be a bit lepending on aircraft parking locations.

Also as I recall SQ Europe services are in T-3, but some regional stuff like Vietnam are in T-2, so you will need to take the skytrain between terminals.

Here is a map of the terminals

If SQ319 is operated by an A380 (seems to be a mixed bag of 77Ws and 380s of late), it will definitely arrive at Terminal 3; the arrival terminal for SQ flights is dependent on the destination of the subsequent flight the aircraft is operating. All flights to A380 destinations operate out of Terminal 3 at the moment.

If it's operated by a B77W, it might arrive at either Terminal 2 or 3 and will only be confirmed 1.5 hours prior to SQ319's arrival in SIN.

A bit off topic, but in late 2010 I flew EWR-SIN on the 345 and my aircraft arrived at Terminal 2. My understanding is all EWR and LAX direct flights leave from T3, was there a reason for this?

I'm 99% sure that ended before October 2010.

A345s have relatively low utilization rates, so the flight might have arrived at T2, only to be towed away later to a remote stand or for maintenance as the aircraft was not scheduled to operate another flight in the coming hours.

I recall reading at the time that SQ used the A340 on SIN-JKT-SIN to give pilots additional takeoffs/landings. Otherwise, with double crews on the EWR and LAX flights and the very long flight times, A345 pilots may not do more than about 2 takeoffs/landings a month.

The CGK A345 flights were ceased when SQ retrofitted the A345s into the all-Business Class configuration.

This makes alot of sense, as we arrived nearly an hour ahead of schedule at about 4:00 in the morning, and the EWR/LAX flights don't leave until the afternoon.

Thanx again

It's Airbus 380 from LHR to SIN and then Boeing 772 to SGN. Both Singapore Airlines flights.
