2-Hr Layover In PHL With Immigration/Customs

Thu Mar 28, 2013 5:45 am

Hey guys,

I have an upcoming layover in PHL in a few days

PUJ-PHL US 1452 2:55pm / 6:54pm
PHL-LGA US 3864 9:10pm / 10:06pm

I'm not familiar at all with the layout of PHL, so my question is will 2hrs 16 minutes (granted my flight from PUJ is on-time) be enough to transfer to my 9:10pm connecting flight with immigration and customs? This is only my second time actually connecting from an international to domestic flight (the other one being in ATL)

Thanks!

Yes, that will be enough. In January I flew ARN-LHR-PHL-DFW-LAX on BA/AA and cleared immigration at PHL. I don't really remember how long it took me, but it was less than an hour and bear in mind that this was during the European arrival push. So unless you are heavily delayed you will make your connection.

BTW, quite a padding on your PHL-LGA flight.

You should be fine, even in Euro prime time I wouldn't get stressed about 2 hours at PHL and you're not arriving until much later.

At PHL you will arrive at A and depart from B/C. These are basically parts of a whole, so as you come out of arrivals at A just drop your bags at the interline bag-drop, turn left, and you almost immediately walk into B/C. It's pretty easy.

I think you'll be flying from F as US3864 seems to be a CRJ200 and therefore US Express. IIRC the shuttle bus to the F concourse departs from gate A1 and takes quite some time. But nonetheless, you should make the conncetion as there shouldn't be any ex-EUR arrival at this time. Last time I was connecting through PHL was this Feb from MUC via PHL to TPA and immigration took approx. 30min.

Duh, should have noticed that

Unless you fancy a long (and quite complicated) walk, then go through back through security in Terminal A after you've dropped your bags, and then catch the bus from gate A-1 to F-14. This will definitely be your best option, I've tried to walk to F before and as well as taking quite a long time, the side walk seems to disappear between D and F making the whole thing more difficult.

Hey guys!

Just an update, my flight from PUJ was delayed by nearly an hour. However, the immigration officer was just super helpful and quickly processed us when we said that we had a very tight connection and it also helped that we were the only flight that arrived at that time and we also sat on the first row of Y. Our luggage was also the first one to be offloaded which baffled me because in PUJ, the agent tagged my bag with a Star Alliance Priority Tag and I was under the impression that as a United Premier Silver (Star Silver) that I would only get the $25 waiver. Also, we ended up taking the bus that dropped us from Terminal A to F-14, we made our connection with time to spare in the end. All in all, a positive experience! Didn't really mind the delay because the flight with US was excellent.

Glad your fights went well! I have found that US Airways handles delays and connection issues the best of the airlines I've flown with. They have always gotten me to my destination with a big smile and minimal inconvenience!
