Hi!

I've only flown one RTW trip and that was on ID90s... It was very fun though and I think most of my flights can be found cheap on the internet.

It was like this:

KEF-YYZ-IAH-LIM with Icelandair, Air Canada Jazz and United.
LIM-CUZ-LIM with TACA (saw Machu Picchu, totally recommend it! Going back there someday it was so good   )
LIM-YYZ with Air Canada (to see Niagara Falls)
YYZ-NRT with Air Canada
NRT-HKG with Cathay Pacific
HKG-SIN with Tiger
SIN-BKK on Thai
BKK-DEL on Cathay Pacific
DEL-BOM on Air India (777-300ER domestic  )
BOM-MCT-DXB with Oman Air
DXB-CDG-LHR-KEF with Emirates, Air France and Icelandair (380 + 318 in the same day!  )

I wrote a TR series on that trip which can be found in the Trip Reports section (don't search as the search function doesn't work, just click on my latest TR and you can find earlier reports at the bottom   )

Regards!
Sveinn

Your itinerary sounds very interesting! however, i couldn't find your trip reports

Does anyone know if it's a good idea to stay, for example, in Singapore for 2 weeks or so & travel the region with low cost airlines but keep returning back to Singapore?

It depends if you know where you want to go/have an itinerary in mind when planning. If you do then I'd suggest no. If you used a Star Alliance around the world fare you could travel regionally on SQ or TG as part of your RTW, and the incremental cost of adding regional flights will be pretty marginal. To be honest I would suggest that the difference in fare between booking -SIN-xxx-yyy-zzz-BKK- and -SIN- would be less than the cost of a few TT flights.

I've flown a few. My first was back in the wonderful days when the SA)">CO award chart allowed RTWs for 220K in J, and you could mix and match SkyTeam + EK (and VS, but I didn't opt for that at the time):

Mix of airlines: SA)">CO, CZ, KE, TG (purchased separately), KQ, SA (purchased separately), and EK

That's the only RTW that I've booked as a RTW with miles. The others have been combinations of paid (including premium cabin mistake) fares and reward tickets:

UA/LH/BX/HA

UA/VX/HA/TG/TK/LH

WN/CX/MN/SA/T6/UA

UA/ET/Ulendo Airlink/SA/CX/US

QR/6T/K7/TG/KE/UA

Aiming for one over X-Mas/New Year's, too, but haven't settled on an itinerary yet. Either IAH-PEK-TPE-HKG-KTM-CCU-MAA-CMB-DOH-LHR-IAH, IAH-HNL-GUM-MNL-ENI-MNL-KUL-CMB-DOH-LHR-IAH, or IAH-LAX-CAN-KUL-PKG-KUL-CMB-DOH-LHR-IAH.

Sure! All long hauls were on Qantas, except London to Rio on BA. This was a specific rtw ticket from BA.
South American flights were TAM Mercosur and Lloyd Aero Boliviano, bought as a single connecting flight in Asunción for $90.
The Bangkok to Hong Kong return was with China Airlines, a month after flight 661 crashed - though we had no idea when we booked it.

Correct   Thanks.
