CX Reservation System Issues - HKG-ORD Zero'd Out

Sat Apr 27, 2013 7:39 pm

Currently trying to book ORD-HKG-ORD on CX in Y dep 27 June returning 07 August. CX website is showing no Y availability for the entire month of August on the HKG-ORD sector. This obviously can't be actually true, so I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to what is going on.

Thank you!

They're still selling online for like 2000 oneway. Also try booking on the AA side of the flight..

I see what you mean, and it isn't just on cathaypacific.com

Expedia is quoting Y out, Y+ back (for $2428), whereas AA.com can only do Y out, J back

Well it is the summer.. And generally bookings are quite high for that time of the year. I suggest checking the Y+ prices because Y+ is comparatively empty. I'm seeing no availability for Y for your return to ORD and a scattering of Y seats for the outbound to HKG. There seems to be more availability on the 7th Aug for HKG-LAX/SFO/JFK, if you want to consider returning via any of those airports.
It's all about the destination AND the journey.

I had the same question - except it was for HKG-JFK, in early September. With ~10,000 Hong Kong students in the United States, along with the regular tourists/business travelers, I'd guess it is not an error but sold out flights...

Besides, isn't there only one daily flight to ORD?

For ORD-HKG on June 27th it shows: F4 A4 J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 R7 E1 Y9 B7 H2 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0, so currently 2 seats in coach fare H, 7 in B and at least 9 in Y.

For HKG-ORD on Aug 7th it shows: F4 A4 J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 R9 E0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0, so currently no seats in coach, at least 9 in premium coach...

The only coach seat that I see in the whole week of Aug 7th (Aug 4th to 10th) is on Aug 9th, where it shows Y1. At this point the premium coach fare R is cheaper than coach Y... at least from the published fares (have not checked CX website).

Hope it helps somehow

Thanks guys for the help. Maybe it's actually full.... would find it so hard to believe though since it's still pretty far out. I'm actually originating in TPA so I just ended up booking TPA-ORD-HKG-JFK-TPA on AA/CX/B6.

I plan on writing a TR so watch out for that!

Wow... if I knew you were originating in TPA I would have suggested TPA-LGW and LHR-HKG and on the way back it would have been HKG-LHR-JFK-TPA with BA (yeah, not CX, but at least One World)... not good for being on a plane for a long time, but good to collect some miles  . It was quoted around 2600$...

Looking forward to the Trip Report
