KLM Operated By Transavia

Sun Jun 09, 2013 3:16 pm

One of my biggest complaints about living in SZG is the fact that most of the time, it is OS/LH or nothing.

Yes, MUC is just 140 KM away, but the 45 minute SBahn trip from Munich Hbf to MUC makes it much less appealing.

Yes, LH has a branded bus from Munich Hbf to MUC, but it takes just as long, can get stuck in Traffic, and costs more than booking an Sbahn trip as part of a train ticket from Salzburg.

The worst part is that it is very difficult to make the first bank of TATL Departures in MUC, unless you want to leave the house before 5am.

So, upon looking at tickets for an academic conference in the US in December, I was surprised to see KLM pop up as an option, since they don't fly here (but I do wish they would) . Instead it is a Transavia flight, operated with a KLM code. I would do it open jaw, if I take KLM, so I can return to MUC and not wait in AMS 6 hours for the next SZG flight.

Will I be subject to Transavia baggage restrictions, if I take that option?

I have half a mind to try it, just because I have always flown OS/LH on TATL. Any thoughts?

KLM.com will clearly give you the answer when you look up a ticket. There is one free baggage allowance on intercontinental flights afaik. Does it matter if you fly HV? For me not. I've booked on KLM and not HV in your case, so I for me, the question about HV's policies wouldn't arise with me.

My concern was whether or not I would face penalties for my 23kg checked bag, and my 8kg cabin bag.

But, instead, I have opted for the same old "boring" OS flight, but this time through ORD.

You can bring the 23kg on KLM, right? You book your flight with KLM... so no need to concern.

See yourself as a 'stupid' passenger. You don't know about Transavia, never heard of them, let alone their baggage rules. You're not dealing with Transavia at all.

That's how I look into these things usually   Simple and easy as it is.

KLM does indeed codeshare on some HV flighrs, mainly to holiday destinations. That would be GRZ in the winter, but also i.e. AGP.

Anyway, you receive a free bag up to 23 kg like with KLM. Not sure if they can give you an onward boarding pass though, since HV does pretty much their own thing in the AF/KL group... But AMS is really easy to collect your onward boarding pass at tons of kiosks spread all around the airside area....
