Question For Someone In UA Flight OPS

Mon Jun 17, 2013 11:08 pm

What is the UA policy on holding a flight for connecting passengers on an inbound flight that is running late?
Can anybody in UA Flight Ops answer this question?
My daughter and her husband are inbound to LAX on one UA flight, trying to get into UA1181 to OGG for their
honeymoon. Will UA hold a flight for inbound connecting passengers?

I don't work for UA, but I can tell you that they won't hold a flight for 2 passengers.

I'm not in flight ops but my mother is an agent and I work with UM's. UA will hold flights if it is a considerable ammount of people missing. I don't know the exact number, but I'd say it's at least in the 15-20 pax range. Hell, they won't even hold the plane for a UM even if it's the last flight of the day and the UM coordinator, red coat, and I call ahead!

I was lucky enough about five years ago to have Gulfstream International (CO Connection at the time) hold the last flight of the day for my wife and I when we were two hours late arriving TPA due do weather at IAH. We landed and the B1900D was sitting there with #2 engine running, they grabbed us from the gate, took us down to the ramp and off we went. The plane was full and we were the last two on. The other pax told us they waited for 25 minutes for us but no one cared as long as we bought them all drinks in EYW!

One never knows what this UA will do so they might just hold it if it's not too much of a delay, I'd call to let someone know as you may find a sympathetic agent who will have the guts to make it happen.

Must be really special to be employed by this company, I know pilot friends who work for them that can't wait to retire this year.
Any views shared are strictly my own and do not a represent those of any former employer.

Really? Won´t it be much more troublesome and expensive to take care of the UM until next day´s flight? I understand he has to sleep with a crew member in the same room etc. Not to mention the airline taking unnecesary risks with UM. I don´t doubt you, but it does not make sense, unless there´s a curfew on the other airport. I suppose it´s one of those things big companies just don´t think through.
