IHMO, it is worth it. I'm 5'11" and have many hours flying in ExpressJet E145 aircraft and use to always pick 1A, but not any longer do I select 1A over 12A, here's why:
1A is a great seat but you won't have any overhead space directly across from you as the overhead bins are on the aircraft right side and don't start until Row 3. So if you have a backpack or something small as a carry-on (roll-a-boards you'll leave on the jet-way) it would have to go above Row 3 unless the Flight Attendant will allow you to store it in the closet near the galley which could be hit or miss on that concept. Also, 1A is fairly loud since the cabin door and galley door are very close and you'll have the wind noise for the entire flight. The galley is also right across from 1A.
12A is the exit row directly over the wing so the seat in front has restricted recline ability which is nice as you already have more room than any other row except for 1A or 3B/C. You won't hear nearly as much wind noise as you will in 1A and the engines really are quiet so if you're inclined to sleep a much better place for noise.
Hope you get to arrive in the new south side of IAH
Terminal B and enjoy the ride.
