I have observed this strange, yet consistent, pattern with Malaysian Airlines over a 2.5 year period. I procrastinated posting on this forum, but, now is the time....
I have flown them on a dozen round trips between India and SE
Asia. My preferred airline in this region is SQ
, obviously, but once in a while, I land on Malaysian.
On the India-KUL
leg (which is 3:45 - 5 hours depending on the Indian city), they consistently avoid the drinks / hot beverages service after dinner. And, their excuse EVERY SINGLE time - 'Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Due to turbulence we are canceling the hot beverage service'. Guess what - NEVER ONCE was there any turbulence when they quoted it as the reason to cancel the service. If, for cost saving (or whatever reason), they do not wish to conduct a round of service, why blame it on weather? Why insult passengers' intelligence by claiming that non-existent turbulence is forcing them to cancel the service !?!
Yesterday, I flew KUL
. It was an 8 PM
departure from KUL
. The weather conditions were perfect as we took off. Yet, for the first ~30 minutes, the crew did not get up from their seats. And, when they eventually got up, they proceeded directly with dinner service... No drinks. So, yesterday, there were no drinks before or after dinner.
I am not an Aviation operations expert... But, as a frequent flyer, I am convinced that Malaysian is going cheap on their customers, by cutting their services. Trying to save money on drinks to passengers, under the false cover of weather...? They need to have more pride in themselves, and their customer service.
