Could Delta Have Kept NWA Livery?

Mon Jul 29, 2013 10:11 pm

It already had the delta triangle, all that was needed was to replace NWA/Northwest Airlines with Delta Airlines with exact same layout as NWA title, probably using same font, only difference the letters would be raised and not lower case. Would have made a much smarter livery then the already done style that DL is wearing, its nice but still.

Even in the non-billboard form it looks good as seen here, if they wanted tail could be blue with red triangle.

The merger came not that long after the new DL livery was announced. It was pretty obvious from the get go that a merger with NW was in the plans from the get go with the red widget and similar styling to nw.

I was not a big fan of the "silver bullet" livery though. The "nwa" looked cheap.

I wasnt a fan of the NWA too, didn't know DL were getting a new look prior to merger, I think NW livery was one of the best in North America.

1) It's three words....Delta Air Lines...not two words, like American Airlines.

2) They already own the NWA brand (logo, livery). They haven't sold it, they've kept it.

Could Delta have USED the NWA livery? Sure....why would they want to? They're not HP/US/AA

I'm glad they didn't. I would hate to see another UA/CO livery disaster.

But the old NORTHWEST ORIENT livery with the plain red tail, to me, was classic.

I was always partial to this idea:

Maybe not in the livery, but NW is alive and well if you look close enough. Anyone notice that most of the planes in the DL ads are NW 747s or Airbuses? The fleet strategy is from NW, using older aircraft because they are paid, or close to being paid off. Even the luggage tags are identical, albeit they say DELTA! I'm sure there maybe some NW signage and traces if you look hard enough.

That's one of the better hybrid livery ideas I've ever seen.

If you look closely, look at the direction the widget faces.

I'm a firm believer that the livery, even if introduced before the merger was announced, already took into consideration that DL and NW would merge eventually. Too much of a coincidence having a widget turned 135 degrees on the starboard side and 45 on the port side (just like where the NW compass points to).
