Wed Aug 07, 2013 2:56 pm

A Delta Air Lines Inc. wide-body jet bound for Detroit is being diverted to the Amsterdam airport after circling to burn off fuel because its flaps got stuck after takeoff from Paris.

Landed safely on rw 06 in AMS. Taxiet to gate after quick check by firetrucks.

edit:
According to Dutch website www.nu.nl there were some problems with the flaps.

I wonder why they diverted to AMS instead just landing at CDG after burning fuel?

Perhaps they thought that, with AMS' plethera of runways, it would do less damage if it got tied up on the runway?

DL flies a lot of planes into AMS so maybe they had the parts to fix it there or it was easier to get the passengers on to other flights.

That could be some of the reasons to go there. AMS qualifies for both I guess.   But maybe AMS is also cheaper to land then Paris or London for that matter.
