What Is This Delta A330 Doing?

Wed Aug 07, 2013 1:14 pm

Why does this flight from Paris to Detroit involve multiple hours worth of circles over London? Ideas?

Diverting to AMS, flap problem:

BTW, didn't know they had moved London to Norwich...

Looks like a divert to AMS.

The ex-NW A330s don't have fuel dumping capability if I remember.
Some see lines, others see between the lines.

It takes less than 4 hours by train to go from Paris to Amsterdam. Looks like it is slower by airplane today. Still circling on Flightaware though.

Ah, can't dump fuel, now that makes sense. I thought every aircraft came with that functionality. North east london is as good of a place as any to do the circles too. South, west, and east would be pretty congested I imagine.

I thought they had a NASCAR pilot in the cockpit. I would not have made that turn over the Atlantic if I knew my flaps could not be retracted. Hope everyone stays safe. Looking routine.

That area is nominally Military airspace centred on Mildenhall/Lakenheath and RAF Marham.

At ground level mile after mile of fields dykes/canals and Thetford Forest.

And few small/medium sized towns Bury St Edmunds/Thetford/Kings Lynn and one city Norwich.

Its pretty sparse really and there are no high level civil air lanes.

Traffic from AMS/MST centre tracks further north to enter over Lincolnshire whilst traffic AMS/MST to LON routes south to enter at Clacton in Essex and down the Thames estuary.

was sparse many years ago -- I grew up in Eccles half way between Thetford and Norwich! Hope the fuel eveporated before it hit the mustard fields
I love to fly, and it shows!

This minor incident is received as breaking news by Dutch media apparently; it's on the front page on every news website..
Here actually one example of an article : http://www.telegraaf.mobi/article/21...el-delta-veilig-geland-op-schiphol
As you can see it includes a high quality video of a Delta landing and there are 400 passengers on this a330 LOL.

That looks like it was filmed with a toaster.
