Ryanair - Who Is Best In Europe?

Sat Aug 10, 2013 9:56 pm

Question - Can any other airline in the world surpass these FR stats?

I think that some comparisons with other airlines are not "fair".

List mishandled bags : I guess that most of the people flying FR only have carry on, not checked.

On time : FR is flying a lot to some "remote" places with only one airline (FR) with only one or two flights a day (more often less) comparing to other airlines serving main airports with way more traffic.
Flying is amazing!

Well, SAS also claims to be the most punctual airline in Europe.

It all comes down to the definition of on-time. Is it with zero-tolerance? With a 15 minute margin? STA vs touchdown or vs gate arrival? And of course, apparently also depends on who measures it.

When they charge $65 to check a bag, very few people check bags. Not too hard to handle bags that aren't there

The BBC investigated Ryanair's claim and found some problems with them. The main problem being that the figures are those of Ryanair without any independent verification.

Ryanair claims that its figures include data from the Association of European Airlines. According to the BBC report, the AEA has not published any figures since 2009. Secondly, some 200 European airlines are not members, including Ryanair itself.

The article presents information from independent wibesite, flightontime.info, which measured performance at 10 UK airports and came up with a figure of 83% on time at those airports.

Overall Ryanair's claim could be true but we only have their word for it.
