Fly Emirates A380 Suites InBound Or OutBound?

Mon Aug 19, 2013 2:38 pm

Hey A-Netters!
So this December, my Dad is allowing me to go visit Dubai. However, no trips can go perfect, I've struck an aviation related dilemma. What better way is there to get an opinion other than asking my supportive A-Netters!
So, I'm fly from Seoul to Dubai then back on Emirates.

Emirates Airlines
EK 323 Airbus A380-800
Seoul to Dubai
Departure: 11:50 PM
Arrival: 4:25 AM
Duration: 10 HR 15 MIN

Emirates Airlines
EK 322 Airbus A380-800
Dubai to Seoul
Denature: 3:30 AM
Arrival: 4:40 PM
Duration: 8 HR 00 MIN

So back to my dilemma. My Dad has told me that I could fly on the Emirates Suites either on the way there, or on the way back and the other flight I'd have to fly Business Class. So, as you are all Aviation Experts, I was wondering which one I should choose. However, I have mapped out these perks and disadvantages for each trip.

Seoul to Dubai:
Pros:
-Longer Flight
-Chauffeur Pick Up to Hotel
Cons:
-Red Eye, Can't Enjoy Suites
-Korean Air Business Class Lounge Access Only

Dubai to Seoul
Pros:
-Emirates First Class Lounge (Concourse A)
-Chauffeur Drive Hotel-Airport
Cons:
-Shorter Flight

So I would like for you guys to add some more Pro or Cons, and help me make a decision! Thanks!!!

Can you not stop in the First Class Lounge once you arrive? I realize you'll be wanting to get on with your day but you could maybe at least check it out?

I generally like flying the premium cabin on the way there. Helps add to the excitement of the trip, ensures that I'll be well rested when I arrive. I usually don't care how tired I am when I'm returning home and fly economy.

Sounds like a great trip though! I'm jealous!

To me one of your con's stands out ....

... If you feel you can't or won't enjoy the suites during your red eye flight then i don't really see the point and would go with the DXB-ICN flight.

I have not experienced either of the lounges but i'd go with First Class over Business Class
I believe in coincidences. Coincidences happen every day. But I don't trust coincidences.

Is this your first A380 trip? Do it in business on ICN-DXB. You’ll be super excited for your return DXB-ICN (the flight most people are less excited about).

Also, an 11pm departure means you are going to be asleep all flight. I don’t really see the point in that. You can stay up for the meal service and then sleep, but I ‘d prefer to be in the suites on the daylight segment.

I thought both first and business class got chauffer access in Dubai.

If you wish to stay awake and benefit from daylight, I would recommend the shorter flight. This flight gives you the additional benefit of access to the first class lounge in DXB, which will be much quieter (less crowded) then the business class lounge. As Emirates does not have a dedicated lounge at ICN you may as well choose to fly business class on the outbound journey (ICN-DXB) so as not to spoil the first class experience by being in a shared lounge.

The only question to, ask is whether the shower spa is available on the shorter duration flight, assuming that you wish to benefit from using it.

P.S. An added benefit of the daylight flight is that you will have better light for taking photos to include in your trip report.

Well, I'd think both flights will be treated as red-eyes. On the DXB-ICN flight, most people will not have had a full nights sleep anyway, so EK will treat the 8 hour flight as a night flight. However, as you'll be in suites, it is upto you how to use it. If you want to be awake through the whole night flight to enjoy it, then EK cabin crew will give you the full service. The only thing is that DXB-ICN has some daylight, which you might like to enjoy.

I would suggest the same, as the trip would get better and better in this case. However, there is that 2 hour difference in flight time, which is significant (but less so if you expect to sleep more on the ICN-DXB flight, which is up to you).

Plus, I'm under the impression that the EK J-class lounge at DXB feels crowded (not that space is hard to find, but simply because there are a lot of people), so the F-class lounge is a big step up. However, I have not been in any of the newer lounges, so I'm not too sure about the situation now.

It will be. It's available on SYD-AKL-SYD (a 3 hour flight each way). I've used it many a times.

Used it on BKK-HKG too. Shortest A380 scheduled flight as of now.
