Aer Lingus Long Haul Economy Class?

Tue Aug 20, 2013 1:32 pm

Dear folks,

I am planning a trip to Europe and found a very special deal to Europe on Aer Lingus via Dublin to Frankfurt.
Its more than 250 $ cheaper than flying nonstop with Singapore Airlines and more than 300$ cheaper than flying United or Lufthansa.

How are they compared to United or Lufthansa? They are operating with a A-330 on this route NYC-(A330)-DUB-(A-320)-FRA).

1 Bag free I've read. How is their food and entertaiment on board. Leg space? I am 6'4"!

Aer Lingus is not bad. Food is basic but you can pay to upgrade that meal. Seats are pretty run of the mill. You can pay for an exit row if you want the extra space. The IFE is fine for the shortish JFK-DUB runs.

So for something different and a saving its fine.

On par with LH but not as good as SQ IMHO.

Aer Lingus is fine. I have flown them many times. Connections at dublin are very easy, if you are returning on them you get to preclear on the way back and avoid JFK immigration. On the DUB-FRA leg everything is buy on board. Over all to save that amount of money it is worth it. IFE is good, Food is good, crew can be hit or miss. Over all should be fine. If your tall my recommendation would be to get an exit seat or bulk head at check in.

For that saving I would go for EI. I recall schedule from/to FRA is not bad either and transit time in DUB not too bad. As said earlier the intraeuropean leg is no frills, but you have a bag free of charge.

I've travelled quite a bit on both EI and UA (transatlantic, economy) and they are both very similar products - average legroom, seat-back AVOD, OK food, good punctuality records, grand crew! EI apparently have Wi-Fi now but they are still having reliability issues.
