I decided to do a poll on who do you think would be the U.S. launch customer for the 777X.
I personally think it will be DL. While it has become a widely-held belief that DL is more interested in older aircraft, this is really over-exaggerated here, and I still believe that DL is indeed looking at the 777X.
UA is a possibility, but they have 35 A350-1000s on order, with no plans to cancel that order, despite rumors by some users here at A.net and FT. The fact is that the decision to upgrade the order to the A350-1000 and increase it to 35 aircraft was done post-merger by the so-called "pro-Boeing" PMCO leadership, which many fail to accept. UA wouldn't have done so if they intended on canceling the order. A 777X order shouldn't be ruled out in the future, but UA doesn't really have an immediate need for them due to the A350-1000 order.
AA is unlikely, since they have brand new 777-300ERs and are now run by US Airways' management who is undeniably pro-Airbus.
So, who do you think it will be?
