Q Streaming System On QF's 767s

Fri Jan 10, 2014 4:17 am

I will be flying from HNL to SYD on a QF 767 in a couple of weeks with my 2 kids and I'm trying to work out entertainment options for them. Has the Q Streaming entertainment system been installed on all the 767s?

Does anyone have experience with this product?

Thanks in advance.

Hey there,

Yeah, I've flown with and used both QSteaming and Virgin's WiFi entertainment system. I've loved it every time. If you are taking your own device (iPad, Galaxy Tab, whatever) just remember to have it charged fully before the flight!

Remember they also have main screen movies in conjunction with QStreaming.

I don't think they have it installed on international 767's but I might be wrong.

Now for the techno geek side of me:

The Nexus 7 or iPad Mini both make excellent tablets for younger children. They both have parental controls too, so you can decide what media and we pages they can browse.

Just remember that, although more expensive the iPad has a much larger selection of both apps and TV shows/Music.

Enjoy the holiday!

AFAIK, QStreaming is installed on all GE-powered 767s (VH-OG*). I experienced it in August last year and found the system to be good, if not a bit lacking in content. It should however, suffice for short domestic flights.

The videos streamed were smooth and loaded quickly, but video quality was definitely not equivalent to traditional HD seatback systems. It was nice to have the responsive iPad capacitive touchscreen at hand instead of the usual insensitive resistive seatback screens.

I found the content too, but for a domestic 6 hour jaunt or medium haul flight to Hawaii it shouldn't be a problem.

I was using my iPad Air on VA's system and the quality was full 1080p. The FA asked me what I thought of the system and I mentioned the stunning quality. She said it was because I was one of the only people using the system.

Your aircraft will have Q Streaming and the (very) slightly updated interiors. I don't think that QF has fitted an external battery, so you might find you run out of power after 8ish hours, but that's already pretty much the entire flight once you get to cruise and get told to put it away before descent.

The range of content isn't as good as the fully integrated systems on other aircraft, but your kids should still be easily able to find a couple of movies to keep them occupied. I'm not sure how reliable the whole setup is (I have heard reports of iPads dropping the connection, which were fixed with a new device from the crew), so it might be worth having a backup depending on how young your kids are.

Hi JonDownUnder,
The aircraft will have q streaming. My recommendation would be to bring headphones your children are comfortable with. The headphones can be hit or miss, so if you have single pin headphones I'd bring those for use in the iPad (and a two pin adaptor for use on the in arm main screen options.)
Another tip, to do a reset, hold the on/off button and the home button together for 5-10seconds to reset the system - has worked for me every time. It's a good system - enjoy. Let us know how it goes for you.
