Qatar Airways Announcing Their Hotel On Board?

Fri Jan 10, 2014 4:12 am

Yesterday I flew on QR 940 from DOH to SIN and upon landing, after the usual "Welcome to Singapore... etc" the FA followed with "In Singapore, the Qatar Airways hotel is the Raffles Hotel."

What did they mean by this? I remember up until a few months ago at least, I used to see the QR crews staying at the Holiday Inn Atrium, and I would imagine QR would not pay for the Raffles. Were they just endorsing the Raffles?

Didn't hear this in Paris, Milan, or JFK before. In Doha they do mention the Oryx Rotana hotel, but that's for pax with transit times of 8hrs or longer, for whom Qatar puts them up for free.

Cheers

Qatar airways' recommended hotel in Singapore is ....

It's not a crew hotel, just a hotel that QR recommends in Singapore.

Yeah that makes sense. But why? Why do they recommend a hotel (and one of the most expensive ones, at that)? Also, as I mentioned, I haven't heard this in Europe or the US.

Cheers

Heard this across quite a few airlines, in many cities across the world.

And I would ask .. why not?

I just flew six sectors with QR and they made the announcement on each leg, including for GYD, DOH, and DPS where crew don't over night.

Methinks it's a marketing/brand positioning maneuver.
Give me a break, I created this username when I was a kid...

Multiple times in United First to Las Vegas they have given out packages from the Cosmopolitan hotel that includes some small vouchers/coupons, mints, and information about the property. They did not make any announcements regarding this, but I assume there is some sort of promotional agreement between the two parties.

Air France always mentions Accor hotels and hertz car rental.
You are 100 times more likely to catch a cold on a flight than an average person!

Hmmm flew AF twice in April and they never mentioned it.

Interesting, I had never ever heard this before.
