Delta SkyClub Announces Changes

Sun Jan 12, 2014 7:31 pm

I didn't see this posted but if it's a dupe please delete...

It looks like a Delta, in response to customer feedback is going to a 2 tier SkyClub membership system.

One for $750 allows up to two guests at a time and one for $450 that allows no guests for free but a small charge if you'd like to bring up to 2 people at a time, in with you.

Sounds interesting, looks like it takes affect in May 2014.

I checked out the food and wine menus at JFK and sounds pretty tasty.

You can check it out here at Delta SkyClub News and Updates.

Essentially a downgrade if you ask me. I'd expect much more for $750 such as improved meal options and free premium drinks

I'm not sure how much this will improve crowding problems, but will certainly get Delta some more $$$$

The Executive Membership option is $695, not $750. Not really clear this will actually lead to more $$$$ for Delta as there certainly will be many who will not renew at these rates. I'm somewhat fortunate as I had puchased several 3 year renewals in the past (whenever they had a sale) and my membership is currently good until 2022 (wished I had purchased a lifetime from NW back when I had the chance). My understanding is that existing memberships will be converted into the Executive Membership.

I couldn't find it anywhere, but how about first class pax? Last time I flew TPA-ATL-LHR-ATL-TPA (two years ago) I was allowed to use the Sky Club. Still true?

Looks to still be the case:

I highly doubt this thread will get the attention and response as seen over on FT....this announcment was like gasoline on a fire over on those forums.

Anything to alleviate the crowding which is endemic at a lot of airport clubs these days. Many are no quieter than the concourse.
If it doesn't make sense, it's because it's not true.

That's Business Elite only. I don't see anything about standard domestic first class passengers being permitted to use the Sky Club (without the necessary elite qualifications etc.)

Thanks, srbmod. I'll be on a TPA-JFK-ATH departure and an LHR-ATL-TPA return this summer, so at least I can save a few bucks by not having to purchase a one-day pass.

Honestly the SkyClub was no longer worth what DL was charging for it. The service had been so badly downgraded that I didn't even bother to renew. Now with this new pricing they've basically hit it again with yet another downgrade. Who wants to pay that much money for a few cheap snacks and bottom shelf alcohol?

The best change would be calling it the Crown Room!

I am not sure I am going to re-new my membership when it expires. The only SkyClub that comes to mind which has nice amenities inclusive of catering is the Narita SkyClub. I LOVE the congee on offer. I can have that and a nice Asahi Draft and be quite content.

I sent a letter of suggestion to delta.com/talktous to see about adding Asian "snacks" to the offerings for the Los Angeles SkyClub as there are daily non-stop flights to Asia.

I am pleased to see complimentary "Lyfe Kitchen" offerings on all DL Shuttle flights from LAX-SFO, so maybe further change will come for us Angelenos.

I read online, Delta is also stopping Skyteam elite access to lounges it does not fully operate itself. Delta has nearly 3 dozen locations its contracts out to 3rd parties.
