Since you arrive at terminal 1 during their big afternoon rush, queues may be, for Singapore, long. Long meaning 20 minutes to clear immigration. All Australia flights arrive at the same time and if youre not on the first you may see immigration hall full of people. I usually have a coffee at the cafe overlooking the immigration hall or walk 3 minute to the small playground inside terminal 1 and leave my child there for 20 minutes if that happens.
Baggage will be waiting when you have cleared immigration and taxi should not take more than 15 minutes into the city. the taxi queue is right outside so thats a 2 minute walk.
Having a child the exact same age as yours, the interest usually isn't what i suggest.
I mean riding a tunnel with the MRT
is as exciting as visiting Marina Sands Bay for example. My advise, dont overdo it, you will have woken up early in the morning to catch the flight.
The zoo is good. But do you want to spend 4 hours walking round in the Singapore humidity between flights?
I wouldnt settle for it until i arrived in Singapore and saw how energised my child was.
The zoo has a kidsworld where you can do water activities, ponyrides, feed farmanimals etc. The kids tend to enjoy it more than the animals. the panda is the pride of the zoo and is on loan from China.
if the child is tired, then do something easier.
Perhaps a rather calm Singapore river cruise, 40 minutes, followed a play in the fountains etc down clarke quay. Not super exciting but if youre getting a bit tired then something you can spend time on without having to walk around in the humidity.
Perhaps combine it with Vivo city mall. the mall has a huge playground and a rooftop waterpark that all kids love. the rooftop water park has three adventure pools, an artificial beach and 4 olympic size swimmingpools. There are always a lot of kids there.
Vivo city is a huge mall, but the playland is on floor two and the rooftop waterpark is on the top level. Much better than doing the pool in terminal1. Have an hours play there and then head back to Changi.
Changi airport offers alot of unexpected stuff. if you get tired early just take a cab back and enjoy the kids stuff there. Best of them all is the slide.
They have a slide for kids that goes between the levels at the airport. Ive taken it, its fun hehe and my 7 year old loves it, absloutely loves it. there is a few differences between the steepness in them. Google the slide at terminal 3 its something you just will find in Singapore. No other airport would ever dream up such a cool idea.
In general my kid loves Changi. Just riding the train between the terminals, feeding the fishes in terminal 2, doing the different playgrounds and going to the kids cinema. Changi in itself equals fun and play for my child so dont be scared to spend some extra time there.
