CBP:No More Paper I-94 Electronic Departure Record

Wed Jan 15, 2014 9:32 pm

I am way late on this, apparently since last year no more cardboard I-94s. Is all electronic now, I do wonder how do they record the departure from the US of those tourist holding visas. Does it also apply to the Visa Waiver program?

My guess is APIS information provided during check-in.

All gone the way of the dodo bird.

You can go online and print out an I94 arrival record for the passenger who needs evidence.

The Visa waiver I94 has been gone about two years now.

I haven't seen an I-94W since the introduction of ESTA.

I-94W has been gone for ages (2009?). I-94 lasted longer, but was basically irrelevant for air and sea passengers by the end as an electronic log is made of your embarkation. Leaving by land was more problematic due to no exit checks, but Canada now provides the details of people crossing the border to the USA and I assume Mexico does the same?

I entered the US just a week or so after they removed the I-94 in May last year and was pleasantly surprised. I've entered the US another 3 times since and have not had issues with the new system. I quite like that the only thing that needs to be filled in is the blue customs form (though I don't really see the point of that for most people). If you want to keep your I-94 for any reason, just head to:

https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/request.html

while you're in the US or maybe a couple of days after departure.
