If You Could Change Alliance Member Airlines...

Sun Jan 19, 2014 1:11 am

Who would you choose for Star Alliance, Skyteam, and Oneworld?

+ You can be biased and base it on customer service standards, consistency, in-flight product, etc...
+ You should choose one airline (major or regional) from each continent except for Antarctica.
+ Your choice in grouping your airlines can even to show how competitive each can be... Cathay with Air Canada in the same alliance, for example. Air Caraibes with Norwegian and British Airways in another, and so on...

For example, choose at least one airline from each continent plus one mid-east airline:

Skyteam:

+ Delta
+ Singapore Airlines
+ Air France/KLM
+ Kenya Airways
+ LAN
+ Virgin Australia
+ Emirates

Star:

+ JetStar
+ United
+ Air China
+ Ethiopian
+ Lufthansa
+ Avianca
+ Etihad

Oneworld:

+ American
+ Qantas
+ British Airways
+ Korean Air
+ South African
+ TAM
+ Qatar

Let's make this fun!!!!

You know that Jetstar and Qantas are one-and-the-same thing, right

And anyway, as an LCC, JQ isn't even a OneWorld member.

I'm going to be selfish and say who I want in my alliance, as a QF frequent flyer.

Boot out QR and bring in EK. Keep CX, but bring in MU to have a broader PRC network. We need a SE Asian partner, MH are fine, but I'd prefer SQ due purely to their larger network. India is anyone's guess. I'm quite happy to keep BA, IMHO they are the best European legacy, and while IAG have the smallest European network compared to LHGroup and AFKL, they are sufficient. For North America I'll be really selfish and take UA over AA (I can't stand AA). That leaves LatAm where we're sitting pretty with LAN and TAM, although Copa could be a fantastic add if they decide to split with Star over a lovers tiff with AviancaTACA.

It seems odd to group Delta with Singapore and Emirates, since SQ and EK are two of the few airlines really pushing 3 class service still, yet DL has been 2 class for over a decade.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

Delta and Lufthansa had a good working relationship in the 80"s and early 90's, as I recall, and they seemed to be perfect partners, so I was surprised to see that they had a divorce and went into different alliances. During those days, Delta had a huge presence in Germany. So, I think Lufthansa should go to Skyteam, rather than Delta to Star, since I think Delta and United would be too big to fit in Star..

How can you put one of the world's most premium airlines in the world's "leftover" alliance?

I do not care much for OW or ST, but if I could choose another member for *A, I would add:

QR - Qatar Airways
UN - Transaero
KC - Air Astana
