Need Help With LH Booking

Sun Jan 19, 2014 9:07 pm

Hi All,

A relative of mine is travelling during next week to Dallas (DFW). Lufthansa sold him a ticket with the following route: OPO-FRA-JFK-EWR-DFW. My question concerns the JFK-EWR transfer, as we already got two different responses from LH call center.

Is it included in the ticket, as LH sold the ticket OPO-DFW as a single ticket, and therefore it is organized by LH, or must my relative find a transfer by his own means once in JFK, in order to catch the new leg of the flight departing from EWR?

All the best for any help,
Alex

I made a dummy booking on the LH website and I think I found the flights your friend's going to be on:

LH1181 OPO-FRA 06:15-10:00
LH400 FRA-JFK 10:55-13:55
UA216 EWR-DFW 17:29-20:37

The connection between JFK and EWR will be in your friend's own hands. AFAIK, no airline provides transfer between JFK/EWR/LGA. And if this is the flight selection he has, oh wow, that's quite a tight one; 3.5 hours to connect between JFK and EWR is not a huge amount of time, so I would suggest that he takes a cab to speed things up (though it will cost more than $100-120).

Edit: While it may look like LH was wrong to sell him the ticket as such, the LH website does mention "Your itinerary contains an airport change."

He will have to organize the transfer himself.

I would really recommend your friend to phone LH and ask for a re-route - maybe FRA-EWR instead of going into JFK?

By the time he Exits the arrivals with his baggage he has may be 2 hours left, if everything goes well. The he may be "taken for a ride" with a NY cabbie, he should ask the taxi captain to assist with fixing a fare.
Now, last time I drove jfk to ewr it toom me 1 1/2 hours.

He should ask to get a Connection from JFK, if that is not possible from LGA. That should work, but is still tight.
