737 MAX differences

Thu Dec 21, 2017 2:43 pm

Within the 737 MAX line, is there any way to differentiate visually among the four models? (other than the different lengths of course)

The 737-7 and 737-8 both look like they have two Type III overwing exits, but the 737-7 does have a single window with blanks fore and aft for what I assume is the AC routing. The 737-8 just has a single blanked window. The 737-9 and 737-10 will have a smaller exit door forward of the aft exit door.

APU inlet and exhaust are visually different. Split winglets. Engines of course. Many have a SATCOM dome on top.

There are two new blinking LED strobes at the rear of the fuselage near the APU exhaust similar to the 787.

The MAX is also more 'level' to the ground like the 737 classics rather than the NG that tilts forward.

The key daytime visual differences will be the tapered tail section, the chevron engine exhaust and the AT winglets (as opposed to Scimitar).

At night look for the lack of retractable landing lights fwd of the MLG (although newer NG's also look like this), as well as dual tail strobes.
