IDG issue/A320, CFM56 series

I've been researching an IDG failures, which occurs last couple of years since this has shown the level of alert as reliability standpoint. One of my Powerplant colleagues told me that we'd better trace possible symptoms in the APU, case of the IDG failures. In terms of supplying a sufficient amount of electronic power to the aircraft, somewhat this makes sense but I am still wondering why and the any legitimate reasons to expand work scope to the APU.

Hmmmm. Not sure what your asking. APUs don't have IDGs, since the turn at constant speed. Not sure there is any connection between the APU performance and the engine IDG. Not aware of any IDG issues on the CFM56 either.

Hi: If about Power fluctuation, IDG is powered by 28 vdc...
Must of the times, IDG fluctuations may be traced for incorrect IDG’s Oil Service, to low or to high, because not enough keeping drain hose installed after service for some time, or just lack of oil.

Not sure about the A320, but a problematic APU generator on an MD11 can wreak havoc on the electrical system. I've seen it cause individual busses trip off and look just like an IDG failing. Takes a while to isolate unless you get lucky and are able to decipher the captured EPCU alerts, if there are any.
When seconds count...the authorities are minutes away.
Unless it's expressly prohibited, it's allowed.
