Dear Levan,

According to http://www.baesystems-ps.com/fadec.php and http://fadecinternational.net/products/fadec-2.php, only the version -7B (as used on 737NG) can have either FADEC2 or FADEC3. I might speculate that there is a typo on the webpage, actually the FADEC 2 is found on the version -3B of the CFM56 which equips the 737 classics, whereas FADEC 3 is intended for use on the 737NG (amongst other aircraft types).

I could not find any information about the differences in regards to design and capabilities between these two FADEC systems.

Best regards,
Hendric

Edit: typo corrected.

Dear Hendric,

Thanks for your replay

There is no typo in the web, as far as FADEC2 may be used for -7B engines as well (not only for -3B). Also FADEC2 and FADEC3 may be installed on one aircraft at the same time (for e.g. FADEC2 for LH engine and FADEC3 for RH engine).

Just I was interested what is the exact differences between them.

Regards,
Levan

You have me very curious. All I could find is FADAC 3 can directly process digital signals from sensors. This cuts out a little weight, improves sensor reliability, and allows different types of sensors (not in the CFM-56). I believe it is required for electric actuators in GE engines (does not apply to CFM-56).

I'm sure there are other advantages (processor and memory), but I didn't find details.
