MD-11 Flaps Problems

Thu Jul 06, 2000 3:50 am

I was AA on a flight from DFW to MIA some time ago on a MD-11. When we where headed to the runway the captin held the plane at the runway for a while and then taxied back to the tarmac and said thta the flaps would no set and we would have to go back to the gate to get it fixed anyways couple of hours later when we were almost ready to takeoff he said that this was common that the flaps wouldnt set.
Is this ture about the MD-11 flaps? that every so often the flaps wont set.

I don't know what they meant by flaps not setting. All I can guess is that on his EAD (engine and alert display) he might have an annunciation telling him that the flaps are not configured correctly for take-off. I work the MD11 quite often and the flaps are one of the more reliable systems.
You're only as good as your last departure.

I agree with you,MD11 is my favoryte A/C and I guess that could have been an indication problem that some times (not very frequent) Is due to the mycroswitches inside the slat/flaps handle assy!
