Boeing 737 Rudder Problem Question!

Wed Jul 19, 2000 10:19 am

Can someone tell me if boeing redesigned the rudders on the 737NGs (600/700/800/900) in order to avoid the problems that many pilots reported with earlier 737 models.... including what many feel were the cause for some crashes such as the USAir in Pittsburgh.

By the way is the rudder system of the A32X very different than the B737? Do you think it is safer in terms of backups?

Thanks for any info!

I am wondering why current 737 operators like United, US Airways, & British Airways went for the A320 family instead of purchasing the new 737NG models. Could it be that the first two who had crashes with the 737 which the rudder maybe at fault didn't want to buy an aircraft with a possible design flaw?

Tedski,
the rudder on the 737NG is not afflicted with the problem, as it was redesigned
