A Day In The Life Of A Long Haul Pilot/FA?

Sat Sep 09, 2000 9:00 am

I always wonder how does the day begin for an airline pilot/FA who is to fly a long flight eg. from LAX - SYD?What if the pilot/FA does not live in LA area? What do they do once they get to the airport? How do they beat fatigue? How long is the turnaround for a long flight like above (how many days later does he/she get back home)? When in Sydney, how long is the lay over? Do they go sigtseeing there? (I am using Syd just as an example). Does the glamor of travel stays on or it gets old quick?
I would love to learn about all this. Any pilots/FAs on this forum who would like to share their `routine' life.
I would really appreciate it & would like to thank you in anticipation.

Arshi

PS. Does anyone know of any book that contains above info (flight operations, etc...)

It probably isn't quite what you are looking for but try and find a book called "Tiger Tales". It is a bunch of stories put together by pilots, F/A's, Mechs, ect. that used to work for the flying tiger line.
OBAMA-WORST PRESIDENT EVER....Even SKOORB would be better.

Hello,

Usually the F/As and pilots go to their hotel after a long, tiring flight.
They stay there about 5-7 days, provided they have a legal rest and the crew mouvements according to the frequencies, and length of the flight.

Beating fatigue with the jetlag isn't always easy AFAIK. Even more when they travel to the East.

Of course, many enjoy visiting a bit the city they are in for a few days.

Hope this helps,

Best regards,

5--7 days??? What company do you work for?! A hell of a RON hotel bill for your company. Yeah, I would say that that is legal crew rest.

Delta Flight Attendants going outbound to Europe usually return inbound to the US on the same return flight one day after they arrive.
This plane is built to withstand anything... except a bad pilot.

Heh, five to seven days is quite a generous guess, indeed. One to two days is more like it.

FYI Sbbre44, I didn't answer your question more in-depth simply because I'm not on LH, myself. I might be able to tell you more from personal experience, soon. Who knows.

Best regards,

TriStar.
