Are you thinking of taking an FAA (American) / CAA (English) or another country licence?

Try amazon.com. They have a wide selection and is usually at a low price. Or you can just try your bookstore. Good luck.

The Gleim books are good, they're red in color and though I bought mine elsewhere, it's probably available at amazon.com.

The best possible book you can buy for this is the ASA Private Pilot Test Prep. In fact, I would recommend that you also get a copy of the ASA FAR/AIM 2000 while you're at it.

I have a 20 yr old cousin (whom I am helping) who is studying for his IFR right now, and I took the opportunity to look through his ASA Private Test Prep. It's concise and to the point. He aced his written by highlighting the correct answers and using that as his primary source of info.

I used Gleim for my ATP, and found it to be good. Here is some info that might help:

I would go to an aviation shop. I have used http://www.Store4pilots.com before and that worked really well.
