MD 90 Engines

Sun Feb 04, 2001 3:17 am

Who makes the engines that go on the MD90? Do they not have the clam shell reverse thrusting system? Whats different about the MD 90 engines versus the MD 80 engines as far as horse power and stuff like that goes? Thanks a lot!

The engines on the MD-90 are 25,000lb thrust IAE (International Aero Engines) V2500s, the same type that is an option on the Airbus A319/A320/A321.

International Aero Engines (IAE).

No. "The thrust reverser system consists of C-ducts, translating sleeves, blocker doors and cascades." IOW, the aft cowling section moves rearward positioning "blocker doors" that reverse the fan air only.

AA MD82: JT8D-217 engines rated at 20,000 lbs thrust.
AA MD83: JT8D-219 engines rated at 21,000 lbs thrust.
AA MD90: V2528-D5 engines rated at 28,000 lbs thrust.
