Airbus A340 Designation

Wed Feb 07, 2001 6:40 am

Hi,

On an Airbus A340-300 (and A330-300) I have noticed that some aircraft are designated A340-313X, what does the 'X' stand for?? is it a higher gross weight version??
I love it when a plan comes together

The 340-300E is the only special (X version if you will) that I am aware of, and I do believe that it is simply an increased gross weight version. Though I have been known to be wrong from time to time.

Please correct me if what I said was in error,

Yes, it's the -313E. The X designation was prior to the certification of the aircraft. It is a higher gross weight version of the -313. I presume the "E" is equivalent to Boeing's "ER" designation.
