Airline Simulators

Wed Mar 14, 2001 10:44 am

Hi,

Are there any airline pilots who could get me into one of their airline's simulators? I'd appreciate it.  Smile

Probably, but they charge like $1000 for a 1 hour slot...

I'm not saying it cannot be done but It may well take an "Act of Congress"  Smile The major that I worked for and all others that I'm aware of do not take visitors to the simulator for many reasons. One would be that there would be training going on and any visitors would be a distraction to the operation. Another would be for security reasons and another would be liability reasons. Generally speaking there is hardly ever any "open" time when the simulator is not being used for training or maintenance "tune up". So, should you wish to fly the simulator, keep working and studying and get hired as a First Officer. And then I don't think you will think it's so much fun  Smile Regards, Oldman

For United, check out http://www.ualservices.com/buissupp_pilot.html

I read that BA has something similar too.

I fly United's brand new 747-400 sims at DTK (Denver Training Center - or "Kingdom" as it is nicknamed) all the time. My friend's father works for UAL, and is a Standards Capt. - He only flies about once per month... the rest of the time he is at the sims giving check rides. I last flew the #2 UAL 747-400 Simulator on Saturday. I flew VERY well, and we were in there for 3 1/2 hours. And it cost me nothing. I think we have the #4 Sim this w/e (it might be #1) for 4 hours.

Don't some carriers have a deal where you can use FFY mileage for a sim ride?? I think you'd have to redeem something like 100K miles for an hour. I seem to recall it was/is DL & UA.

There is some info in this thread www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/402222/ on the general aviation board.

Sair and Sabena have a system where you can exchange miles against a flight sim ride. I suppose other carriers must be doing this to.
