Frequency Of Flight Lessons

Sun May 13, 2001 4:49 am

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering whether or not it is worth starting my lessons toward the PPL if I can only afford going once per week? Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Once per week if fine but don't try to do it once every to weeks.

Would going every two weeks just make it too hard to remember what was tought? What would be the main drawbacks from going once per week? or even once every two?

Thanks Again

I recommend saving up and flying 3 times a week to everyday. The reason for this is you will get your license quicker and it will save you money. I used to go about once a week and it was fine, but I was in no hurry as I was young. But all other ratings from now onward I would go 3 times a week. When I did my complex sign off I went everyday!

Thanks you for the suggestions. I am currently 16 years old and am really in no hurry for my PPL. Since I have to pay for the lessons with my part-time job I will go once a week and try for more. As for the other Ratings and Commercial license I will definitly go very frequently and hopefully get my parents to fund it  Smile

Thanks

Getting the funds is the hardest part of flying! Big grin

Nbirger - I would highly suggest holding off it will certainly save you plenty of money, which as you are self funding will get you well into your instrument ticket!

Flight152 - What is harder then getting the funds is getting girls dads to let you take them flying!

I am currently going once a week as there are transportation issues going on, but everything is fine and working out ok...I'll be going more frequently August and after when everything should be straightened out...

I also go once a week. I think it would be better to go two or three times, but since I have such a full schedule and not enough money I'm left with no choice. For me it's either once a week or wait at least five years to start until I'm out of school and making a lot more money and can MAYBE take the time during the week to fly.

Sophie,

I am pretty much in the exact same situation as you. I hope that once a week will be good enough. Hopefully when the time comes to try for the Commercial License I will have some sort of funding (Parents/Loans).

I have one more question. If I go once per week how many hours do you figure it will take me to be ready for the checkride? I strongly doubt that 45 or so will be enough doing it that.

Thanks for the replies

I still think you should save up, as even if you go 1 hour a week you will have problems doing your X-country as they are normally 2-3 each. So then you would only be flying every other week or once every 3 weeks.
How long it takes depends on teh size of the airport, however the average is about 60 hours.
