Machining Tools

Fri Jun 22, 2001 9:08 am

Can anybody give me any examples were they have had to make tools for a certain job, meaning they had to machine something in a quick amount of time whilst an aircraft was AOG, i've had to make a screw jack for a job on a JP before but I had all the time in the world to do it, but surely an engineers hand skills shine through when they need to make a tool for a job in quick time! Can any of the OLD SCHOOL especially give me an example?
cheers

In Gander I was replacing a hydraulic pump on a DC8-61 (JT3) and had to cut and bend a wrench to fit. Of course the guy who put the pump on used a nut that different from the accessable ones, so I had to do it again.

Oh, did I mention it was January and very, very cold. Brrrrrrrr.

In the past i have had to grind down the flanks on my wrenches to access nuts in tight spaces.
