V2500 Powered MD-11

Sat Jul 21, 2001 3:03 am

According to the Boeing website China Eastern Airlines has V2500 powered MD-11s. Does any one know why this is the only airline with that engine type, what is the thrust rating, and what are the benifits if any of having MD-11 powered whith V2500 engines.

V2500-Aren't those used on the MD-80 and MD-90s too?

Somebody goofed i think

the MD-11 doesnt come with V2500s, only the MD-90 does,

MD-11 comes with either PW4400s or CF6-80s (yes i know it was also offered with Trents, but no one ever got one)
MD-90 come with IAe V2525-D5s
MD-80s come with JT8D-200 series engines

hope that clears it up somewhat.....

exactly what the error was i can't say, but since China Eastern has both MD-90s and MD-11s, maybe someone read the wrong line....

Check it out

and select China Eastern in the select customer option.

Although the V2500 is a very good engine it would take 8 of them to power an MD-11. Just a mistake somehow.

The Airbus A320 also is offered with IAE-V2500 power plants. IAE stands for International Aero Engines.
You're right about the MD-11, it was never offered with V2500 engines. China Eastern operates the MD-11 with PW power plants, like you said.

Around September 2000, Airbus's website had the CFM56 as an engine option on the A330...They fixed that error in less than a day...

They made a mistake, it should have read that China Eastern has V2500 powered MD-90s.

Actually it should have said China Eastern has PW engines on there MD-11's.

I know the know the MD-90 has V2500 engines I was just wondering if IAE designed, and developed an engine especially for the MD-11. It would have probbably been better than the MD-11's current engine choices.

Thanks for the Info

I know IAE are keen to sell the V2500 but I have never seen them on an MD11 you would need six of them

Should they be need for the A380 you would probably need 8
