NW Airlines' Atlanta Maintenance Center

Wed Aug 01, 2001 9:36 am

Hi all. To the Northwest Afficianados and employees, is the ATL Tech Ops. center a JT8D Overhaul facility for 727's and DC-9's? Reason I ask is that all I ever see there (from the outside) is tons of engines and a storage facility for nacelles and t/r tailpipes. What all is done there??? Thanks. By the way, I also see many of airtran's DC-9's there for engine service as well.

It is just for DC-9 heavy maintenance.

They also do some heavy mx and engine work for AirTran as well. I have seen 727s and a A320 over at the MX base before as well, but it is primarily a DC-9 facility, has been since Southern Airways built it in the 1970s, through the merger with North Central, through the merger of Republic with Northwest. Not sure what will become of it once Northwest retires the DC-9.

I guess if they ever retire the DC-9 should be added. They'll be flying them for another 8-10 years probably.
