Engine/Apu Fire Extinguisher B737.

Mon Aug 06, 2001 6:58 pm

The Engine/Apu Fire Extinguisher bottle contains Halon or is it Freon.
What is the latest Extinguishing medium used on the B737s.

From AAL B737-678 AMM 26-21-00-010:

"The engine fire extinguisher bottles are spherical. Each bottle contains halon and nitrogen at a pressure of 800
PSI at a (ambient) temperture of 70F (21C)."
"Eagles soar. But weasels never get sucked into jet intakes.."

That leads to another question.
Why are the Fire bottles Spherical.
Both the Engine & APU Fire bottles on the B737s are spherical.
And so is the Lavatory Fire extinguisher bottle spherical too.
What shape is the Fire bottle for the Bulk cargo compartments?.
Anyone.

Most aircraft are using Halon 1301 for the suppression systems. I do not work in these systems directly. I have worked on Ramp euipment such as De-icers which have a fire system. However I have seen these system first hand.

Thanks
