Seatback Video Question

Fri Aug 17, 2001 2:14 am

I was wondering about how much the seatback video systems cost for each carrier.

How much do the on-demand systems cost (US Airways' Passport) versus the simple games and video channel systems such as Continental and other carriers' systems? Do they cost the airline weight?

How much do they cost to keep in maintenance?

Overall, what fraction of a longhaul ticket price of $600 or so would go to the amortization of purchase costs plus cost of maintenance of your seat back TV screen?

Why do some carriers recalcitrantly not order them (like Northwest and United) whereas other carriers have a lot of them? What's up with that?

Thanks for your responses!
