Recycle-Reduce-Reuse Planes?

Sat Oct 13, 2001 3:08 am

Hey everyone,

On August 29 1998, a Cubana TU-154M (CU-T1264) overshot, and eventually crashed at the end of runway 17 in Quito's Mariscal Sucre Airport. Only the right wing with the landing gear still attached as well as the Tail and engines were left. The remains of the plane were left for a couple of months beside the runway (A very conforting sight when you take-off). Then the remains dissapeared and the metal was sold in auction to make pots and pans. In first world countries, what happens to the remains of planes? The same thing happened with a Brasiilian FLY plane which also overshot the runway. Are they also recycled to make new pieces or are the used for other purposes?
