Heathrow Arrival Procedures

Sat Nov 10, 2001 1:50 am

Could someone please explain the different arrivals to LHR? I've only flown in there once, so I'm not very familiar with its operations. Any information is appreciated. Thanks.

Have a look at:

http://www.ais.org.uk/uk_aip/pdf/ad/EGLL.htm

This has all the Heathrow info, SIDs, STARS, local procedures and the like.

Enjoy!

P.S. You'll need the PDF plugin to look at this site.

Plane lands - plane says "hello" to ground - ground says "hello" back - plane goes to gate - people get off plane - toilets in plane emptied - cases come off plane - pilots lock plane behind them to minimise risk of theft.

A hint: Get off the runway as quickly as you can. There is almost certainly a bigger plane on short finals behind you! Big grin

Oh wait. you are not flying there as pilot, are you? In that case, from a passenger's perspective: If the 27 runways are used, you get better views on the RHS of the plane (Parliament, Big Ben, Whitehall, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, Millenium Wheel, Albert Hall, Imperial College, Natural History Museum, etc.)

If the 09 runways are used, I think you can see some castle on the LHS, but you won't fly above central London so the views are not that spectacular anyway....

I have a similar picture from a BA777 landing 27L. I could see everything from there, the London Eye, Big Ben, Buckinham Palace, Millenium Dome, and Heathrow on short final, and I have a picture of 3 concordes parked at the BA hangar, this was when they were out of service in 2000.
