B737 Control Console Levers

Thu Nov 15, 2001 2:11 am

The B737 control console levers have a definite shape.

The Landing gear lever is shaped like a wheel.
The Flap lever like a Aerofoil section.

What about the Spedbrake,Fwd Thrust levers & R/T levers.

Is there an explanation for their shape.

regds.

It is standard in most planes for the landing gear handle to be shaped as a wheel and the flaps an airfoil. It is also standard for the speed brakes and throttles to be the "normal shape." In almost any aircraft, that is the case. It is what the pilots are used to.

The general shape of control handles and levers is mandated in FAR 23.781 and FAR 25.781 for normal/commuter and transport category aircraft respectively.
