Does anyone know if SAA completed their attempt to break the timed record for flying around the world in a commercial airliner? I was looking over a back issue of Airways magazine and saw the ad for what was to be called the Polar Byrd II flight, a 747-400, which was supposed to leave JFK on 11/17/01. The first stop was to be in Rio Gallegos,Argentina, then over the south pole to Perth,Australia, then on to Bejing,China and finally returning to JFK over the north pole. I could not afford to take the flight(seat prices ranged from $6,500-$15,000!!!) but I would love know how it went. Anyone with info, please respond. Thanks in advance. ZEBFLY2
