Weight Limits

Thu Nov 29, 2001 12:19 pm

Does anybody know if there is a weight limit imposed by the CAA/JAA/FAA on how heavy a pilot is allowed to be to fly on an ATPL?

If there was then who would fly an aircraft with MTOW in excess of that limit?  Confused

Best regards,

With the FAA the answer is no. You do have to pass a First Class medical to be Captain, along with most airlines requiring it for both crew members, and if you are over weight it could cause problems. So, technically the answer is no, but you should be in reasonable shape in order to pass the medical.

Not true. I'm 5'10'' and 250 lbs and I just yesterday earned my first class med. 5'10''/250 is considered obease (I'm trying to lower that second number, and I run 1/4 a mile a day) The reason I got the 1st class (I'm a student pilot) is because I wanted to be sure I could get one later in life... appearantly obeasity isn't disqualifying in America... The only cases in which it would be disqualifying would be if it were accompinied by a heart condition, or if it "Makes the person unable to safely perform the duties or exercise the privileges of the airman certificate applied for or held" That would have to be one really fat pilot!!!
