Callouts @ Landing

Sun Dec 02, 2001 6:15 am

Hey

One thing I've always wondered was, what is the last thing that is called out on the altitude callouts (according to videos I have, it's played both on Airbusses & Boeings, don't know about other types with altitude callouts). It's something like "Retard! Retard!". Sometimes the retard thing is said twice and sometimes it's heard 3 times. My imagination is that it's to alert that the throttles have been closed (something the PL can't see due to him having his eyes on the runway). Is this the case? If so, why is it played/called out a different number of times?

Only the Airbus says "retard" and it's simply giving an opinion on the person performing the landing.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Good one Charliecossie.
It actually means to close the throttles as you said CPH-R.
