What Happened To These Operators?

Sun Jan 20, 2002 11:12 am

I have always wondered what happened to these various airline companies. However when I ask people I get many different answers. Here are the ones I am interested in. I am looking for ex-employees to answer if they are present.

Branniff
Frontier
Pan Am
Western Pacific
Rosenbalm (freight hauler)
MGM Grand Air
Monarch

I hope that’s not too many. I can remember working with former Branniff employees on the flight line and they all quit to try to start Branniff again. I was amazed at the level employee loyalty they had. They would sit and reminisce about old times say how great the old company was. It was before my time I am fascinated.

I can tell you Monarch are still going strong.

A visit to London Gatwick (LGW), Manchester(MAN), or even somewhere like Tenerife(TFS), or Palma Mallorca (PMI), and you'll see loads of them.

Hi Techrep
This is what I found in ten minutes on the web.

This site on Braniff is very interesting, it shows the whole airline's history:
http://www.braniffinternational.org/

Frontier is still alive:
http://www.flyfrontier.com/index.asp

Monarch too:
http://www.monarch-airlines.com/index2.html

But those were the easy ones.
But I am sure there some guys/girls arround here who knows more about the others.
And like you said ex-employees might be arround to tell you more.

Regards
Mike

Braniff 1 : bankrupt in 1982. 2 resurrections also failed.
Frontier 1: Bought by People Express in 1986 and merged into Continental along with PE.
Pan Am 1 : Bankrupt DEC 1991.
Western Pacific : Bankrupt (1996 ?)
MGM Grand : Bought by Scott Kalitta and renamed Champion Air.
Rosenbalm I think just died when ATI, UPS and Emery got there own AOCs.
The day you stop learning is the day you should die.
