Tech Preference: Proficient On 1 Or Multiple A/C

Mon Mar 18, 2002 12:53 pm

Would u rather be proficient on one or multiple aicraft??

U know the techs at Southwest know (or should know) the B737 in their sleep.
Well, for those at AA, CO, DL, NW, you prefer it your way (having to know multiple types), or would you rather have it like SWA??

I prefer the challenge of knowing multiple types.

Depends... If my employing airline has multiple types of aircraft, I prefer to have as much knowledge and experience on as many types as possible. I also believe it is beneficial for said airline as well to have their mechanics well-rounded with a wide range of proficiency. And yes, I very much like the challenge, and variety, as well. -- Now, If "my" airline has only one basic type of aircraft, It wouldn't really be much of an issue anyway would it?

If you can be multi rated why not multi type? The theory is the same on all aircraft, and there is always the maintenance manuals to refer to for the individual perculiarities. Besides, I think the more experience you have can make a better engineer.
