Where Does The Term Come From

Thu Apr 04, 2002 4:12 am

Where does the term "crap" come from. As in crap into the wind? Is it because the plane has to straighten out at the end, it looks like its moving sideways like a walking crab.

Or is it because the menuver causes newbie crew members, controllers and/or pax to "crap" their pants Big grin

Now i've seen it all, crapping into the wind, LOL, i think (and hope) you do mean crab into the wind. I think it does come from a crab, as it's the only logical way it could have been named crabbing.

Cheers,

Jeff.

This is a classic, and I'm sure we have all endured crabs that came out the other way Smile

Either way, the term was inspired by the odd angle that crabs employ to run across the beach.

Me: "What do you do to track a line to land?"

Student: "Crap into the the wind."

Me: LMAO  Smile

Good one, they sound similar but they are two totally diffrent meanings.

It does come from the sideways angle. Just like a crab walking.

If it is unadvisable to spit into the wind, it is doubly so unadvisable to crap into the wind.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

"Crapping into the wind"... hmm ... never really come across that one. We tend to use "Don't p*ss into the wind." Maybe that's the method for finding the optimal crab angle...

Well John Crapper was the man who invented the flushable toilet...

I wonder if it was John Crabber that invented that particular way of landing in a crosswind.

Don't laugh; if you say that you've never crapped a X-wind landing, you're lying.

Whoa... never heard of crapping into the wind. I suppose that is what I'd do if I had a 30kt crosswind!

LMAO!

It was my understanding was that was where the term...."The John" also came from.
